West Ham United insider ExWHUemployee has claimed that David Moyes likes Manchester United striker Anthony Martial.

In September 2015, the Red Devils paid Monaco £36m to bring the French teenager to England in a deal that could eventually rise up to £58m.

At the time, Louis van Gaal was manager, who replaced Moyes after the Scot was sacked in April 2014. Despite the current West Ham boss never working with Martial during his time in Manchester, he could be interested in signing the forward in the near future.

Indeed, while talking about the player on The West Ham Way podcast, ExWHUemployee said that Moyes ‘likes him’ – although he did express some ‘question marks’ over a potential deal.

He said: “Yes, I think Moyes likes him; yes, he would be a good signing. I think initially he would be a loan.

“However, the thing with Martial is there’s just a few question marks about his personality and whether he’d fit into this squad. Also, given the fact that he’s not guaranteed to be the main man – you know, I think Antonio would still hold onto the first-choice forward position, and I think Martial would expect, if he’s leaving Manchester United, expect to be the main man at whatever club he goes to.

“And I can imagine he would be more likely to go to someone like Newcastle, where they would spend money and probably make him the main man, rather than us.”

TIF Thoughts on Anthony Martial and West Ham…

It’s been a disappointing few recent seasons from the French attacker, who is now valued at £31.5 million (as per Transfermarkt). Indeed, last season, he scored just five times in the Premier League. It doesn’t seem as if he’ll do a great deal much better this term either, as he has just one goal and two starts to his name up to this point.

The summer arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho has made game time even harder to come by for Martial, so an exit this January may be on his mind.

Should West Ham go for Anthony Martial this January?

If Moyes does like him, as Ex suggests, the Hammers could make a move for the 25-year-old. But, as is also mentioned, doubts over Martial’s attitude could put the club off. Newcastle United may also complicate matters if they make a move, as has been rumoured.

Therefore, it seems a move could be on the cards, but whether Moyes believes Martial and the Hammers are a match for each other remains to be seen.
