West Ham United fan and presenter Gonzo has been speaking on the Hammers Chat YouTube channel about the Irons’ need to sign a new striker in January.

West Ham, despite selling their record signing last January in Sebastien Haller, decided to not replace him in neither that transfer window nor the summer, with David Moyes putting all of his trust in Michail Antonio to remain fit.

Will West Ham lose their star players?

While the striker has managed to stay healthy this season, he is now also playing for Jamaica, which is adding more games into his legs, while he also appears to be out of form, having scored just once in his previous six league matches.

Antonio is the only recognised striker that West Ham have and Gonzo believes that needs to be addressed in the next transfer window.

He said: “I think it’s not only really important we bring in a striker, I think we bring in a striker that can challenge Michail Antonio – and this has to be the case now. Because we put all our eggs in one basket with him, but he’s not put all his eggs in one basket with us.”

TIF Thoughts on West Ham’s striker department…

Last season, West Ham managed to strike up some top January business when Jesse Lingard arrived on the scene and helped take the burden of scoring goals off the shoulders of Antonio, but now that pressure appears to be right back on the Jamaican international, who, given his injury record, may well expect to be sidelined at some point this term.

Nice easy one to start off with. How much do you think Declan Rice is worth?

The Hammers do now have a new shareholder in the club with Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky having recently bought a 27% stake in the club, so his money could be used to help bring in some striking cover, which could be the difference between West Ham qualifying for Europe once again, or falling short.
