ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United had a past ‘interest’ in Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah and he wouldn’t be surprised if the Hammers tried to sign him.

As things stand, West Ham are not particularly blessed with central attacking options. If Michail Antonio was to get injured, the club lack a natural replacement.

With this in mind, the January transfer market may provide ample opportunity to amend this issue. While discussing the matter on The West Ham Way podcast, ExWHUemployee revealed that Nketiah could be one player they aim to bring in, as they have held a ‘strong interest in him before’.

After discussing another potential forward to sign from Arsenal in Alexandre Lacazette, the Hammers insider said: “His teammate, that we have definitely shown an interest in before and have looked at quite a lot, Eddie Nketiah – his contract’s up in the summer.

“And I know from sources that we have had a strong interest in him before, so it wouldn’t surprise me if we did make a move for him.

“He would fit, with that age, he’s 22 possibly, young, pacey, works hard – a similar mode to Antonio, really.”

TIF Thoughts on Eddie Nketiah and West Ham…

This move could suit both parties quite well. At just 22 years old, Nketiah will probably be hoping to find a club where he can play regularly.

While Antonio would be very much the first-choice option, there could still be plenty of Premier League minutes for the Arsenal striker from the bench, or when the Jamaican is either injured or needs to be rested.

With the Gunners so far this season, Nketiah hasn’t even featured in the league once. He has been limited to just two appearances in the Carabao Cup, though he has shown his quality in these games, scoring on both occasions.

Would Eddie Nketiah fit well into this West Ham side?

What’s more, with the young forward’s contract set to expire next summer, he could be potentially signed this January at a fraction of his true value.
