West Ham United presenter Gonzo has been speaking on the Hammers Chat YouTube channel to discuss the upcoming January transfer window.

With transfer targets the hot topic of discussion, Gonzo discussed the club’s lack of options at striker and David Moyes’ hopes for the January window.

Currently, the Hammers have just one recognised striker in their squad in the form of Michail Antonio following the departure of Sebastien Haller earlier this year.

However, it is claimed the Hammers boss is looking to strengthen his side’s strikeforce in January, with 24-year-old Moroccan, Youssef En-Nesyri, a believed transfer target.

And speaking on the Sevilla striker, Gonzo had the following to say on the latest news regarding the likelihood of him switching Spain for the London Stadium in the coming months.

“En-Nesyri is his number-one striker target, make no mistake about that. If he can get him, he will get him. I don’t feel that this is just a lazy link.

“I do believe that we’re possibly going back in for him. I also do believe, as I’ve mentioned before, that the dynamic at the club, the reputation of the club, the prestige and the way the club is viewed on the continent – I’m talking about West Ham here – has elevated somewhat since the last time we went in for En-Nesyri.”

TIF Thoughts on West Ham’s striker options…

We absolutely feel West Ham need some reinforcements in January for Antonio, who has done brilliantly considering he is the only senior striker in Moyes’ squad.

However, we do question the calibre of striker the Hammers would be able to attract given Antonio has firmly nailed down his spot with an impressive six goals in 11 league appearances.

Antonio has been known for his injury issues in the past, which is obviously a reason as to why the Hammers would look to add to their squad.

But En-Nesyri is currently suffering from his own injury issue, which has caused him to miss a number of games already this season.

So, although we agree West Ham will benefit from an extra body in their strikeforce, we feel they need to get it right given the chosen player could have to fill in for another potential injury to Antonio.
