Football insider Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on the latest episode of his Here We Go podcast to discuss the latest transfer news at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Italian was discussing the appointment of Antonio Conte at the north London club and some of the terms which will have been agreed to attract the 52-year-old to join the side currently ninth in the Premier League.

Will Levy back Conte with money to spend?

Yes

No

No

Conte has spent handsomely during his spell as a manager, with a number of big-money signings to his name during his spells with Chelsea and Inter (via Transfermarkt).

The Lilywhites have made an underwhelming start to the season, which has many believing the Italian will be handed a hefty transfer kitty to spend in order to put his stamp on the Spurs squad.

Speaking on the matter, Romano had the following to say on what he understands Daniel Levy and the Spurs board to have guaranteed the 52-year-old for the upcoming transfer windows.

“Of course money is important. It is about his contract, his salary, money to spend on the market. But it’s about the power. He wants to have the power to say, ‘I need these players to win’.

“It could be a top player, it could be a young player, it could be an old player worth €2m, but he needs these kinds of players and this kind of power. And this is what Tottenham guaranteed him.

“So now Conte and [Fabio] Paratici will be together to rebuild Tottenham, I’m sure that in January Tottenham will do something in the transfer market.”

TIF Thoughts on the January window at Spurs…

Conte’s arrival has come with a change to the formation, with the north London side fielding a three-man defence in the two games under the Italian so far.

With this in mind, we feel Spurs need to bolster their options in defence given they have been far from convincing at the back in the opening 11 Premier League games – having conceded 16 goals already.

We feel the addition of Cristian Romero should be added to in January, and links to Milan Skriniar and Stefan de Vrij are certainly the direction in which we think Spurs should be looking at with experienced centre-backs.

It’s actually been a bit sick that we have spent in excess of 1.1 Billion on a ground but bought in rubbish like Doherty and Sessingone!
How exactly do they expect us to be happy about that?
