Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Rob Guest has been speaking on the latest episode of the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast to discuss the appointment of Antonio Conte.

On Tuesday, the north London club announced the Italian as their chosen replacement for Nuno Espirito Santo, who was sacked on Monday morning.

Should Conte field a strong XI on Thursday?

However, there has already been an issue with the former Chelsea manager since his arrival at Hotspur Way to finalise the move to the Lilywhites.

The 52-year-old was unable to take training on Tuesday and had to settle with watching his new side as his work visa is still in the process of being issued.

This news comes just a matter of days before the Lilywhites turn their focus back to Europa Conference League action with a game against Vitesse on Thursday evening.

However, the Football.london journalist was able to provide Spurs fans with a promising update on his work permit and whether Conte would be able to take to the dugout on Thursday in N17.

“We’ll have to wait and see, but I think everyone that Tottenham will be hoping that can be pushed through as quickly as possible.

“That stands for his coaching staff as well as they’re coming from another country into the UK. I was told, I think these usually take a couple of days to go through but they’re hoping everything is in place for Thursday morning so that means Conte can be in the dugout for the Vitesse Arnhem game. If not, then it would have to be the Everton game on Sunday.”

TIF Thoughts on Conte’s first week…

Spurs have had a shaky start to the campaign across all competitions, with five defeats in the league and just one win in the third-string European competition.

Whether Conte is in the dugout on Thursday or not, we’d expect he will choose the starting XI and we are interested to see how strong of a side he will put out for the game against Vitesse.

The Lilywhites also have a Premier League clash against Everton to consider on the weekend, but with Spurs sitting third in their European group, could Conte be forced to field his big guns?

Alternatively, Conte could look to rest his star players like Harry Kane and Heung-min Son and provide some of the outsiders of the squad, such as Dele Alli, with an opportunity to prove their worth to the Italian.

I can see the signs already, the mention that there might not be any new signings in January by Paratici. If you sign one of the best managers in the world and don’t back him fully, what is the point? If top quality signings are not made, I can’t see Levy, Lewis and ENIC surviving that. This whole show would have been pointless, unless it was designed to relieve some of the pressure off of Levy and Co. The fans won’t forget. In fact for me, there is nothing Levy can do to make me ever trust the man again. #LevyOut!!
