TalkSport pundit and former Tottenham Hotspur player Jamie O’Hara believes that the club could re-appoint Mauricio Pochettino following news about Nuno Espirito Santo’s future.

It certainly was a harrowing day at the office for the Portuguese tactician on Saturday. Not only did they fall 3-0 at home to Manchester United, but he also was subject of some criticism from the fans in the form of large-scale booing at half time, during the second half and at full-time, in what would prove to be his final game in charge as he was sacked this morning.

And now that the club have decided to move on from Espirito Santo, speaking on TalkSport before the sacking was made official, O’Hara felt the club should move to re-appoint 49-year-old Pochettino, because he believed the Argentinian’s current club, Paris Saint-Germain, might look to move on from the ex-Spurs boss at some point soon as well.

He said: “He could come back, you know, Pochettino. I could see that happening. They won, but they’re not convincing at the moment, PSG, they’re really not that convincing. And you know them owners are ruthless, if the Champions League doesn’t go quite how they want it to – because he’s got to win Champions League there, Poch – he could end up back at Spurs.

“I can imagine them sacking him, bringing in an Antonio Conte at PSG and then all of a sudden, we turn our attention back to Poch. I mean, that would be the best scenario.”

Is there still a chance of Pochettino returning?

It certainly would be a bold move for someone like Daniel Levy at Tottenham Hotspur to make by going back to someone he sacked back in 2019 after a disappointing start to that season, so it might take something drastic to repair that relationship.

It would also be a risky one as well, because whilst there’s no doubt that he helped take Spurs forward as a club including their memorable run to the Champions League final in that same year, there is no guarantee that he would be able to repeat that sort of success if he were to come back to north London.

As their league finishes showed, there was also a gradual decline under him when it came to the Premier League during his final few years at the club as they slowly moved down the table.

So whilst it might look attractive based on the nostalgia aspect, Tottenham Hotspur might need to think twice before they go down that road again.
