A whole host of Tottenham Hotspur fans are buzzing on Twitter after Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij broke his silence over transfer speculation linking him with a move to N17 and a reunion with former manager Antonio Conte.

Spurs may well be set for an Italian revolution with Conte aiming to add real quality to his squad in the January transfer window, with many Lilywhites supporters believing that De Vrij would be an excellent signing for the north London outfit.

Now the Inter defender, who sat down for an interview with Sport Nieuws ahead of Holland’s World Cup qualifier against Montenegro this weekend, was asked to either confirm or deny any links to Spurs.

“Deny! Because I don’t know anything about anything,” de Vrij said.

“The connection was maybe made a bit quickly because the trainer I have worked with is now working there. But I don’t know anything. He (Conte) hasn’t approached me about it yet.”

“Would be an amazing signing for us…the fact that Romero’s been kept on the right of the back 3 could mean that were looking for someone to come and play in the middle of it…not many out there better than this guy at playing that role”

The 29-year-old played an integral role as the Nerazzurri claimed their first Serie A title win in a decade under Conte last term, featuring 66 times in the league in the Italian’s favoured 3-5-2 formation in Conte’s two seasons in charge at the club.

Conte has since adopted that system in his two games in charge of the Lilywhites, opting to chose Ben Davies, Eric Dier and Cristian Romero as his back three in the 3-2 victory Vitesse Arnhem and stalemate against Everton so far. To that end, the Italian is expected to bring in at least one new central defender in January – with some of his current Tottenham options not really being up to scratch.
