Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Charlie Eccleshare has been speaking about Cristian Romero’s injury latest on The View From The Lane podcast

The Argentine defender has now missed Tottenham’s last two games due to the injury picked up during his time away on international duty.

Will Romero be a big miss?

Yes

Yes

No

No

It is still yet to be revealed how long the 23-year-old will be sidelined for but reports have emerged suggesting the Argentine is now looking likely to be out for the remainder of the year.

Romero’s injury comes at a time where the centre-back had just begun to nail down consistent game time for his new club following a turbulent start to his life in London (via Transfermarkt).

Discussing the latest injury news at Hotspur Way ahead of their trip to Lancashire on the weekend, Eccleshare had the following to say on what he knows about Romero’s injury.

“We don’t yet know the full extent of it. But there are concerns. I mean, Conte mentioned this and from what I’m hearing, there are worries about it.

“And that would be such a blow it really changes how you view that defence, because I think if you’ve got him, you’ve kind of got a talisman to build the defence around and you hope that the other players come up to his level.

“Suddenly you take him out, and you’re back basically the same options they had last season without [Toby] Alderweireld. And that is yeah, that is a big concern.”

TIF Thoughts on Romero’s absence…

The defender arrived at Tottenham with a big reputation despite still being in the early stages of his career, and after dealing with his niggling injury issue he had just begun to feature regularly (via Transfermarkt).

Before missing the game against Leeds United (because of this injury), Romero had played all 90 minutes in the last five Premier League games.

As Spurs find themselves struggling defensively this season, we think Romero will be a big miss having clearly impressed many including legendary defender Graham Roberts.

And in his absence against NS Mura in the Europa Conference League, his defensive colleagues didn’t exactly fill the fans with any confidence in what proved to be an embarrassing defeat.
