A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have reacted with joy after hearing that Antonio Conte has no plans to use Steven Bergwijn in the future.

According to journalist Mike Verweij, speaking on Dutch outlet De Telegraaf’s football podcast (via Sport Witness), the Italian manager has only said ‘two words’ to the Spurs winger since arriving in north London.

The journalist went on to explain that Conte doesn’t want to use him in his team and Ajax are a likely destination if they can sell their player David Neres in the January transfer market.

This follows previous claims that Ajax were eyeing up Bergwijn for a potential loan move in January.

The information was soon shared on social media by Daily Hotspur and it didn’t take long to draw a response from plenty of supporters.

Here’s what these Spurs fans had to say…

“OMG TIER 1 YESYESYESYSSYSSYEYSYSTS ITS HAPPENING.”

“Please be true.”
“Siiiiuuu.”
“Wow! A bit surprised by this. But then I was surprised when we signed Bergwijn, and have been surprised how ineffective he has been in the final third since then. So maybe I won’t be as surprised when he leaves.”
“Hallelujah”
“Not fit to lace Lamela’s boots.”
“Byeeeeeeeee.”
“Savage.”
“Great news though. He’s only ever been interested in chick king and showing off his expensive cars all over Instagram. Another wage thief! Just be Doherty, Sanchez, dier, dele, winks, ndombele and LoCelso to go!”

As we are still in the early stages of Conte’s reign, it remains unclear as to what players in the current Tottenham squad will be seen as a part of the future.

Spurs have had quite a few odd players over the years, but can you remember them? Here is the first one, who is this former Tottenham man?

But if this story is true, Bergwijn does not look to be one of them. Judging from these comments, however, it’s fair to say the majority of Spurs fans won’t be too upset if he is sold.

In 60 appearances for the club, the 24-year-old attacker has scored just four times. With figures like that, it’s easy to see why some supporters remain unconvinced.
