Former Tottenham Hotspur player Graham Roberts believes that Sergio Reguilon needs to step up after a poor start to the season.

The 24-year-old has made nine Premier League appearances for Tottenham so far this campaign and has registered two assists, which came against Arsenal and Newcastle and sees him lead Spurs’ Premier League assist charts.

Reguilon was named as a substitute in Spurs’ last game against Manchester United, with the Red Devils running out 3-0 winners and following the defeat, Tottenham and manager Nuno Espirito Santo parted ways.

Roberts believes that Reguilon has not been consistent enough, though he acknowledges his potential, telling This is Futbol: “He’s not had the best start to the season, and I thought playing against Newcastle he got further forward, he dictated to them more than people dictating to him.

Against Chelsea and against other club’s we’ve got caught out a little bit on that side, but no, I think he had a very good game [versus Newcastle], very talented boy.”

The defeat to Manchester United left Spurs in ninth position in the league table after ten games, with 15 points, having won five and lost five.

Following the departure of Nuno, Spurs acted quickly to bring in former Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte as their new Head Coach, with Conte signing a deal which will see him remain at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until the summer of 2023.
