Former Tottenham Hotspur player Graham Roberts believes that Antonio Conte is an elite manager and thinks his appointment is massive for the club.

Daniel Levy decided to replace Nuno Espirito Santo with Conte in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium dugout, with the Italian putting pen-to-paper on a deal until the summer of 2023.

In his first two matches in charge of the club, the new head coach led his side to a victory in the UEFA Europa Conference League against Vitesse Arnhem and oversaw a goalless draw away to Everton in the Premier League.

Roberts believes the appointment of Conte is massive for the club, telling This is Futbol: “It’s massive because what you do is you build a stadium, you build your training ground. We had Jose Mourinho, one of the top managers in the world, but he was unfortunate he never had any fans in there. I think if he’d have had fans in there the football might have been a little bit different, but he did it his own way and parted company.

“The other three top managers in the league are Chelsea’s manager, Liverpool and Man City and look where they are in the league and that’s what you aim for, and Conte is one of those elite managers and with a bit of luck, we’ve got him.”

Conte has been highly successful in his previous managerial roles as he has won the Serie A title on four occasions (three with Juventus and one with Inter Milan), two Italian Super Cups with Juventus, as well as winning the Premier League and FA Cup with Chelsea.

After having success previously, you would imagine that Spurs will be hoping that Conte can bring and instil that winning mentality to their team and lead them to glory in the future.
