Former Tottenham Hotspur player Graham Roberts isn’t sure Sergio Reguilon and Emerson Royal are good enough to win Spurs trophies.

Tottenham completed the signing of Emerson from Barcelona during the summer and he put pen-to-paper on a five-year contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium [BBC Sport], whilst Reguilon signed in September 2020 and also signed a five-year deal with the club [BBC Sport].

Will Tottenham win a trophy under Antonio Conte?

After a change of head coach at the club, with Antonio Conte replacing Nuno Espirito Santo, all the players will be competing for a place in the new boss’ team, but Roberts isn’t sure that Reguilon and Royal are good enough to win Spurs trophies.

“Right-back, left-back, are they good enough to win you trophies? We’re not sure,” Roberts said to This is Futbol.

Both players have started both of Conte’s opening two fixtures as Spurs boss against Vitesse Arnhem and Everton, with Emerson completing 90 minutes in those two games, whilst Reguilon completed the Vitesse match but was substituted against Everton in the Premier League.

After back-to-back defeats against West Ham United and Manchester United, with the latter the last game of Nuno’s reign as manager, Conte has picked up a victory in Europe against Vitesse and also a draw against Everton and so you would imagine that once the international break is over, the club will be looking to push on and continue with their run of positive results.

  • Tony Borg says:

Emerson certainly isn’t good enough although if we were to play a back three I would keep Reguilon for sure, he has the pace for the wing back position and gets himself back quickly too. Emerson isn’t quick enough and is so much more clumsy on the ball, to me Emerson and Aurier are much the same, would have liked us to go for Aarons or Lamptey as a right wing back.
