Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl likes Theo Walcott “a lot”, says journalist Tom Barclay.

Walcott initially rejoined Southampton on loan for a second spell at the club last year before eventually signing on a permanent basis.

The 32-year-old is not currently in the best form right now, failing to score or create a goal in any of his five Premier League appearances this season.

Since returning to St Mary’s, he has also had his injury problems, missing a chunk of the last campaign due to a hamstring injury. Even so, Hasenhuttl remains a fan of the player, Barclay has told TIF.

“Ralph likes him a lot,” The Sun journalist said. “But, you know, obviously, it’s down to performances more than anything and he’s not playing particularly well at the moment, so he needs to step it up. Maybe Ralph likes that experience, I don’t know. We’ll see what happens on that one.”

Southampton’s attack as a whole this season has not been firing, with new signing Adam Armstrong having his own struggles in front of goal, though he was able to end his drought last time out against Aston Villa.

Hasenhuttl will now be hoping Walcott can break his duck and bring some more firepower to this Saints team.
