Former Southampton midfielder Carlton Palmer is not too sure about the Saints’ chances of signing Fulham sensation Fabio Carvalho due to agents “running the game”.

The 19-year-old has impressed in the Championship this season, scoring three goals in seven games, and is now being linked with a move to the Premier League.

According to Football League World, both Southampton and Liverpool are in the race to sign Carvalho, while The Sun have claimed that Real Madrid are also keen on the attacking midfielder.

Palmer feels the likelihood of Southampton being able to offer more game time compared to the likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid could be an advantage but fears the role Carvalho’s agent could play in this transfer battle.

“The advantage [of going to Southampton] is playing, but the agents are running the game now,” the ex-Saint said to TIF. “So, you know, it’s whether he gets advised correctly by his agent.”

With Liverpool and Real Madrid already blessed with talent, Carvalho could easily struggle to find regular game time at either club.

Bearing that in mind, perhaps a move to an outfit like Southampton would be best for his development if he does decide to leave Fulham.
