Former Southampton midfielder Carlton Palmer is not worried about the lack of goals from his old side this season.

Southampton are one of the lowest scoring teams in the Premier League, with only Tottenham (nine) and Norwich City (five) registering fewer goals than the Saints (10).

It is a subject manager Ralph Hasenhuttl recently addressed when he told reporters and the club’s official website that he was not concerned by his side’s lack of goals in the current campaign.

Are you worried by Southampton's lack of goals?

No

And Palmer feels exactly the same, telling TIF that it is currently not a problem due to how Southampton have been defending and their capability to still pick up points.

“I think they’ve won the last couple of games by 1-0 and 1-0, so they’re not prolific, but they’re picking up points and keeping clean sheets,” the ex-Saint said.

“There’s no need to worry. The only time to be concerned about the amount of goals you’re scoring is when you’re losing football matches.”

Indeed, having kept out Aston Villa and Watford in their last two outings while managing to score a couple of goals in the process, Hasenhuttl probably does not need to worry about his team’s attacking numbers in this moment of time.

They do, however, have a really good chance to improve their goal tally right after the international break when they take on bottom of the table Norwich.
