Football insider Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on the latest episode of his Here We Go podcast about the latest news regarding Newcastle United.

One of the main talking points was the Toon’s search to find themselves a new director of football following the arrival of the new ownership at St. James’ Park.

A name that has emerged as a potential candidate is the former Chelsea man Michael Emenalo, who is reportedly on the radar of the Tyneside club over becoming their new director of football.

Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards has also been linked with the vacancy at St. James’ Park over recent weeks following the announcement of his impending Anfield departure in the summer.

However, speaking on the 56-year-old Emenalo, Romano had the following to say on a potential breakthrough in talks with the Magpies over the vacant role, which could see developments to come in the next few days.

“This week will be important to see what is going to happen, because Newcastle will start their talks with potential directors.

“I will keep an eye also on Michael Emenalo, former Chelsea director. It could be an interesting one for Newcastle. But let’s see if they will do something surprising as they did with the manager.”

TIF Thoughts on Emenalo to NUFC…

We think the new ownership on Tyneside will bring a new lease of life to the club and the fans, given the huge amount of money that is behind the PIF consortium.

However, we feel there has to be someone at the club to help direct the new owners in the right direction in spending that money and Emenalo is someone with vast football experience.

Amanda Staveley, for example, has only been involved in brokering takeovers up to now. She has not been involved directly as a football club owner.

But with someone like Emenalo, who has 10 years’ experience from his days at Chelsea alone, we think it could be a very sensible appointment for the Toon to make – but whether anything will materialise in the next week or so remains to be seen.
