Whenever a club has a new manager or they get vastly wealthy owners, the transfer rumour mill always throws up some good stories. Newcastle United have been at the centre of audacious signings being rumoured for huge amounts of money recently.

According to Sky Sports DE, Newcastle have made a huge offer to Barcelona for star ‘keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

You’d normally expect fans of a team battling relegation to be ecstatic at the prospect of signing the number one from one of Europe’s ‘big boys.’ This isn’t the case however with Newcastle’s fans.

Newcastle Fans react to Ter Stegen links

“Well that one makes no sense at all now does it… You really think that is on Howe’s priority list to get rid of our number one ‘keeper?” @Smithmichaelw

“A goalkeeper is the least of our worries we need a defence.” @DanLang12

“I would say this is the last place we need to strengthen.” @_arrongallagher

“Some of these rumours have been a bit daft, but this one is the daftest. Still no recruitment team or manager in place, so who is ‘identifying’ all these targets? Also, it’s literally the only position we don’t need immediate improvement in!” @scottwilson1984

“Says who? We have FOUR goalkeepers in our 25 man squad. Don’t see this as a priority at this time.” @keithmorrell57

“Rather have Buffon and make him captain for two years as first choice.” @MSK_1985

Premier League survival will be far from easy for the Magpies, if they are going to stay in the league, January improvements could be the difference between extending their stay at England’s top table, or stepping back into the Championship.

While maybe not the priority, there’s no escaping the fact that ter Stegen would improve the Toon outfit massively, they still need other areas strengthened. If they are to survive though, surely they’d have to make multiple signings, so no need to panic just yet!

While the rumour mill goes on and on, the Newcastle faithful have turned their immediate focus on filling the current managerial vacancy, with many feeling that should be the priority for Amanda Staveley and co.
