Liam Kennedy, Newcastle United reporter for NewcastleWorld, has been speaking to Steve Wraith on the latest episode of NUFC Matters about the Tyneside club.

With the January transfer window quickly creeping upon us, the journalist discussed a potential player the Toon are believed to be targetting.

Would Sule make a good signing in January?

Yes

Yes

No

No

And that player in question is Niklas Sule of Bayern Munich – with Kennedy revealing the Magpies to have opened talks with the Bundesliga club over the potential acquisition of the centre-back in January.

Newcastle have had their issues in defence this season as they have gone 11 games in the Premier League without being able to keep a clean sheet.

Discussing the latest news coming out of the club regarding the 26-year-old defender, Kennedy had the following to say on the potential addition to the Toon’s defence in January.

“It’s the exact fit of a type of player Newcastle are looking for in January. I’m not going to say it will happen, but there did seem some positivity around it [with] people I’ve spoken to, so we’ll have to wait and see on that one. But it’s true, there’s definitely been talks between representatives behind the scenes.”

TIF Thoughts on Sule to NUFC…

We are very surprised to hear the £31.5m-rated German so keen to leave Bayern in January for the Toon given he is getting consistent game time for the Bundesliga’s top side.

From a Newcastle point of view, this would seem a brilliant move to secure the services of a player with such a wealth of experience at the top of the German game and in the Champions League.

However, one thing which we feel is key for Newcastle going into January is being able to secure their signings early on in the window.

The Toon only have three Premier League games scheduled for January, but given their current position, we do not feel they can afford to lose out on any time in trying to land their targets.
