Newcastle United fans have been reacting to claims surrounding the future of Graeme Jones ahead of their next Premier League game.

Jones, who was assistant manager under Steve Bruce before his departure, has been taking charge of the team on an interim basis for their last two games against Crystal Palace and Chelsea, which resulted in a draw and a loss respectively, whilst the club looks to appoint someone on a more permanent basis.

Can you name who scored the most league goals for Newcastle United in years gone by? Let's see if you can starting with 2020/21

However, it looks as if his stay in the dugout might be set to be extended for a little bit longer. According to a report in The Telegraph: “Despite two disappointing performances against Crystal Palace and Chelsea, Graeme Jones is also expected to take charge of the team against Brighton next weekend.

“But the plan is for that to be his last game as interim manager with everyone at St. James’ Park aware of the urgent need to name a permanent successor to Steve Bruce given the club’s perilous league position.”

With Newcastle United currently sitting six points away from safety in the Premier League and without a win all season, it certainly is a perilous position indeed, and when the news about Jones reached the Newcastle United fans on Twitter from @NUFC360, there were plenty of them up in arms about it, with many not feeling confident about their chances either against the Seagulls or in general:

“We’re so finished”

“Very concerning we are just letting vital points pass us by. Saturday is going to be horrific again.”
“Send us down A$AP”
“Just forfeit it”
“Alarm bells & red flags over the handling of this. Hope I’m proved wrong though.”
“I knew this was going to happen”
“Oh my god we are so relegated”
“Having Jones go up against someone like Potter is one the biggest mismatches ever. Tactically Potter will have Jones on toast. It’s an awful decision to keep Jones on for this game. It’s infuriating how slow the new owners are being.”

Should Graeme Jones stay at Newcastle after they hire a new manager?

A bad result at the weekend combined with others elsewhere could leave them nine points adrift of safety, and if that happens, you would wonder what manager would want to take on that role, even with the promise of a big transfer budget at their disposal.
