A lot of Newcastle United fans have taken to Twitter to voice their thoughts on a transfer claim linking them with Lens star Seko Fofana.
According to Foot Mercato, Newcastle are leading the way in the hunt for the Ivorian midfielder, with Marseille, AC Milan and Atalanta also reportedly keen on signing Fofana from Lens, as newly appointed manager Eddie Howe aims to bolster his squad with quality ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.
Considered ‘one of the best midfielders‘ in Ligue 1, the Ivorian ace would provide a statement of intent from the Tyneside club. Since they completed a well-documented takeover by the Saudi-backed consortium last month, the Magpies have become one of the wealthiest clubs in world football.
However, his club Lens are supposedly in a decent financial position, according to the report. They don’t need to entertain interest, but it’s explained that a large offer could tempt them to sell. Fofana has been with Lens since last year, joining from Udinese, where he spent four years and has really caught the eye so far this campaign, being named the Ligue 1 September Player of the Month.
Will Newcastle survive relegation under Eddie Howe?YesNo |
Subsequently, Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to react to the transfer links with the Ivorian star.
What did these Newcastle fans have to say?
“Seko Fofana. Now that’s a transfer target who fits what we club needs. That’s a player we can get right now”
“Yes please. This man is beast mode on the pitch!”
“He’s perfect for us”
“Nice! Him or/and Renato Sanches please”
“Yes and he is a good player but he is massively overrated. I’d much prefer a Aouar or a Koopmeiners especially for the price”
“I mean we signed Cabaye from Lille after we won the league and that’s when we were skint”
In order to avoid the drop from the top flight, Newcastle may need to look into the January market to strengthen their squad, with the Toon still yet to win a match all season.
It appears the 26-year-old midfielder could be someone Howe could use to strengthen his side as Newcastle look to survive the threat of relegation. However, whether they act on their reported interest in Fofana with a formal approach remains to be seen.
