Newcastle United fans will have been looking forward to hosting Brentford at 3pm, with new manager Eddie Howe taking to the Toon dugout for the first time.
Unfortunately, their eagerness will be going unsatisfied as Howe will not be at St James’ Park to watch his side. The Englishman had a positive Covid test on Friday, subsequently having to isolate. A big blow to the fans, who were so excited to see Howe given the toxic end to Steve Bruce’s time at the helm.
As you can imagine, the Newcastle fans were far from happy with the update, as their wait to see the new manager in action goes on.
How the Newcastle fans reacted to the update on Howe
“There’s a thin line between tragedy and comedy at this club.” @mal_theakstone
“No way are we cursed or what? Can we have anything nice?” @agbnufc_
“Did Bruce leave a mug lying around in his office or something?” @tfNUFC
“Can we really get any more Newcastle?” @kendallrowanx
“I honestly love being a Newcastle fan, you just can’t predict what we’ll get next.” @JordanWoodley7
“Proof to why we will never be successful. Club is cursed from top to bottom and always will be.” @Nikos_NUFC
Evidently there is some gallows humour from the Newcastle fans, probably covering up their frustration and disappointment at the latest update. We don’t know what impact it will have on the result, but Howe will certainly be watching on and be in the ear of his assistant.
A win for Newcastle would keep them in the relegation zone regardless of other results this weekend, but three points would massively improve the atmosphere and morale of the club and set them on the right path for Howe’s reign.
