A lot of Newcastle United fans have flooded to Twitter to share their thoughts on the latest transfer claim to emerge regarding the Tyneside club.

According to Sport, Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho is set to reject the potential opportunity to join the Magpies in January, with the Brazilian not looking to leave the La Liga giants.

Do you want Coutinho at NUFC?

Coutinho has been linked with the Magpies since the early stages of the Saudi Arabian-based takeover on Tyneside ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.

And despite the 29-year-old struggling to earn a consistent spot in the Barcelona starting XI this season, it seems the Toon have been hit by a potential transfer blow for January.

Newcastle fans flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts on the claims to emerge from Spain ahead of the new ownership’s first transfer window in charge of the club.

What did these Newcastle fans have to say?

“Prayers have been answered ! Don’t need mercenaries.”

“who on earth at the club thinks we can sign him? We need to go in for players around us. McGinn, Ward-Prowse, Tawkowski, Zaha and such.”
“We don’t need him either!”
“He clearly doesn’t want to play for anyone, he’s on big £££ doing nothing.”
“Good…Don’t need/want mercenaries.”
“Why is every player “not leaving their club” a transfer “blow” to nufc? Stop being melodramatic. EH hasn’t even had a game, yet. He’s unlikely to have any idea who he wants through the door in January.”

Coutinho has had a turbulent couple of years since leaving Liverpool, with the Brazilian’s game time dwindling at Barca since the 2018/19 season – including a loan spell away at Bayern Munich (via Transfermarkt).

It seems these Newcastle fans are not exactly disappointed to hear these claims and we think given their torrid start to the season, the Toon will need players who actually want to be there to avoid the drop.
