Newcastle United’s hunt for a first win of the campaign draws on after sharing the spoils with Brighton, as well as their hunt for a new manager.
It was a performance in the opening 45 we were used to from Newcastle this season. They offered next to nothing going forward and looked far from convincing at the back.
The second half saw a change in performance; they started to cause Brighton more problems, and eventually managed to level the scores through Isaac Hayden.
As the game entered stoppage time, Callum Wilson looked to burst past Robert Sanchez. He had an open goal to aim at before being tripped by the Brighton ‘keeper. Newcastle fans were outraged at the incident, knowing that it effectively cost them two points.
How did Newcastle fans react to that Wilson moment?
“Disgusting. We were about to win.” @MichaelArma1997
“Joke that… Lost two points because of that foul.” @DaleMulholland9
“That was disgusting.” @LukeMccance
“Absolutely robbed, Wilson is tapping that in. How is just a red card justice?” @gxldsg
“Decent point, but Wilson clear on goal to get the win was gutting. So disappointing. Keep the faith.” @xanaduflipper
When things are against you, they’re really against you. Robert Sanchez taking one for the team late on could be the difference come the end of the season. Already five points from safety, every point matters in relegation fights.
Newcastle United fans will be hoping that Watford and Leeds United drop points in their fixtures later today, helping them stay with in touch of safety.
Newcastle’s maiden win of the season will have to come sooner rather than later however, with all other teams in the league registering at least one win so far.
