Fabrizio Romano has been speaking about Manchester United’s interest in Brendan Rodgers on the FIVE YouTube channel.

It has been a poor season thus far for Manchester United, having lost to Manchester City, Liverpool, Aston Villa as well as Young Boys in the Champions League, however, following the international break, which saw a whole host of teams appoint new managers, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has remained in charge at Old Trafford and was recently pictured arriving back at the training ground.

Who would you rather as Man United boss?

Rodgers!

There have been a lot of high-profile names linked with potentially taking over from Solskjaer, such as Zinedine Zidane and Rodgers, though despite the links, nothing is seemingly close to changing at Old Trafford.

Romano has been speaking about the possibility of Rodgers taking over from Solskjaer.

He said: “I know from what I’m told, that at the moment there is nothing advanced or nothing official going on. It’s true that he’s one of the names on the list of the Man United board, this is 100% true. So on the list of Man United, there are names like [Mauricio] Pochettino, Brendan Rodgers and Eric ten Hag.

“For Brendan Rodgers, he’s 100% focused on Leicester. When Newcastle approached him, he said, ‘no way, I want to stay with Leicester, I want to continue this project.

“Let’s see if maybe Man United will decide to go bigger on him maybe in the next weeks if Ole’s situation will not change, maybe it could change.

“But at the moment, what I’m told is that he’s not in direct contact with Man United. He is one of the names on the list, but it doesn’t mean that he’s in direct contact.”

TIF Thoughts on Rodgers potentially going to Man United…

Rodgers appears to be a man that is highly in demand at the moment as he was reportedly wanted by Newcastle United, but ended up turning them down. As well as that, it has been suggested that both Manchester United and Manchester City are keen on lining up Rodgers as the successor to their current managers.

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

The Leicester boss has managed to turn the Foxes into a team that consistently challenges for both the Champions League and Europa League, although they have narrowly missed out on the former in both the 2019/20 and 2020/21 campaigns – and that sort of end-of-season collapse could be playing on Man United’s minds when thinking about whether or not he could replace Solskjaer.

If the Man United board were to sack Solskjaer and bring in a new manager, it would make sense to do it before January so any new boss could have a transfer window to try and mould the squad as he would see fit and not have to work with the players that have been brought in by the current boss.
