Manchester United do not need Leicester City star Youri Tielemans, former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer has told This Is Futbol.
Tielemans is yet to sign a new contract at the Foxes – with his current one set to expire in 2023 – and is being linked with a move to multiple clubs, including United.
Do United need Tielemans?
Tielemans has been an exceptional addition to Leicester’s squad since initially joining the club on loan from AS Monaco back in 2019, scoring his side’s winner in last season’s FA Cup final against Chelsea with a sublime strike from outside the box.
For Palmer, though, the 24-year-old is not what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs right now.
“He’s another player in the ilk that they’ve got,” the ex-Leeds United star said to TIF. “He’s a very good player, a very, very good player – very good technically on the ball, but that’s not what they need.
“They need a player in the middle of the park who can stamp his authority on the game, you know, defensively.”
Indeed, in Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba, United already have two very technical midfielders, so perhaps the emphasis should be on bringing in a ball winner like Tielemans’ Leicester team-mate, Wilfred Ndidi.
