Football journalist Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on the latest episode of his Here We Go podcast to discuss Sadio Mane’s future at Liverpool.

The Anfield side only brought in one player in the summer’s transfer window, but did manage to retain the services of their key players (via Transfermarkt).

Does Mane deserve a new deal?

This time around, it was not new arrivals on Romano’s agenda regarding Jurgen Klopp’s side, instead, players who could see their time at Anfield extended with a new and improved deal.

The Italian journalist claimed Mane is one of the players who the Reds are looking to tie down to a new contract, as the 29-year-old has just over 18 months left remaining on his current deal.

Mane has now been at the Anfield side since 2016 and was previously rewarded with a new deal three years ago, but speaking on Mane’s current situation, Romano had the following update to provide.

“I wanted to add the Liverpool board are prepared also to meet Sadio Mane and his agents to discuss his new contract.

“This is an important update for Liverpool because we always talk about [Mohamed] Salah out of contract in 2023. But also, Sadio Mane is out of contract in 2023, and Liverpool are preparing the first approaches with Mane to enter into this contract story.”

TIF Thoughts on Mane’s new deal…

Mane has been a big part of the success achieved at Liverpool in the last few years under Klopp, with the Senegalese international playing 235 times across all competitions (via Transfermarkt).

We think he has certainly lived up to his reported £37.08m price tag, having netted 106 times and provided 44 assists, which has led to the winger getting his hands on numerous trophies.

And with his current deal ticking down, we think Liverpool should be doing all they can to tie him to a new deal, as he is showing no signs of slowing up.

In his 12 appearances in the Premier League this season, Mane has already netted seven times and provided an assist, and Liverpool will hope he can keep this form up as they continue to battle in the title race.
