A whole host of Leeds United fans on Twitter have flocked to the latest transfer links suggesting they could move for Mariano Diaz.

Leeds have struggled this season and that may be largely down to the fact they’ve been hampered by injuries, especially to their main goalscorer Patrick Bamford, who has not featured for the senior side since mid-September.

Therefore, seeing links emerge to a striker should come as no surprise, as the club will have to get in some suitable backup in case Bamford picks up another injury.

Someone who is out of favour and being touted with a potential move to Elland Road, according to reports in Spain (via Leeds Live), is Diaz, although it may not get fans excited given he’s started just nine games since the 2018/19 season.

Will Leeds be relegated?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

A lot of Leeds fans have reacted negatively on Twitter to this Mariano Diaz transfer claim.

What have these Leeds fans been saying?

“And we have an immense talent called Gelhardt waiting to be used, for free. Any time better than a fringe player from Spain. Look at Firpo, when we had Alioski….what a bad decision.”

@AlamLufc

“Always sceptical when we pick up fringe players from Madrid/Barca etc.The last two haven’t done much.”

@tallpault

“Crikey that’s about 20 reports on 20 different players now. I’m only interested when one is actually signed”

@Pitchsp

“No chance – his agent trying to get him a move”

@ratman47

“No thanks get Cabral instead”

@Niall_LUFC

“Never heard of him”

@chriswmt83

Diaz was signed by Real Madrid back in 2018 from Lyon for £19.35 million, but since then he’s only started nine games in La Liga, scoring five goals, but it could be a stroke of genius if Marcelo Bielsa could get him back to the kind of form he showed in Ligue 1, which saw him net 18 goals in 30 starts.

This was a low point in Leeds United's history, but how many points did they get in the 2003/04 campaign?
