A number of Leeds United fans have erupted online after hearing Patrick Bamford and Luke Ayling will play in an Under-23 game as they step up their return to fitness.
Both players have been injured for a number of weeks now having missed every game since playing Newcastle United in the fifth game of the Premier League campaign. Last week, Marcelo Bielsa had confirmed that Ayling was expected to get some match action at youth level.
Will Leeds improve in the second half of the season?
Yes
No
In their absence, Leeds have struggled so far this season winning just twice and now sit only one place above the relegation zone as a consequence.
However, as announced on the club’s official Twitter page, the two players will play in the next academy fixture. Meanwhile, Robin Koch’s recovery was also said to be ‘on schedule’ while Kalvin Phillips was declared fit for the upcoming game against Crystal Palace.
Understandably, the update went down very well amongst the club’s support.
Here’s what the Leeds fans had to say…
“Huge news in terms of them both coming back at such a crucial time which should hopefully boost the team morale. Massive week coming up where we’re desperate to pick up points.”
A lot of Leeds’ struggles this season may well be to the various injury issues their players have suffered up to this point. However, with a quartet of players making good progress, it’s easy to see why these fans are so excited.
With the busy festive period set to throw a number of fixtures up in quick succession, Bielsa will likely need his whole squad available to him.
Even having just one or two of the aforementioned players back could be a great help to the club in the coming weeks.
