Leeds United fans have been commenting on the performances of Junior Firpo following comments made by former player Matt Kilgallon.

The 25-year-old signed for Leeds this past summer from Barcelona as the club looked for a replacement for long-time servant Gjanni Alioski after he departed the club following the expiration of his contract, but Firpo hasn’t had the best of times so far at Elland Road.

He’s spent some time out of the squad with an injury and hasn’t managed to put up a goal or an assist so far for Leeds this season, whilst also ranking eighth in the squad for both tackles and interceptions – ranking quite low in comparison to the other defenders in the side (via WhoScored).

Speaking about his displays to BBC Radio Leeds after their defeat to Tottenham Hotspur (quoted by Leeds Live), Kilgallon said: “He’s struggling at the minute. I think he’s come from Barcelona and maybe thought coming to the Premier League with Leeds might be not as hard; it’s twice as hard, you’ve got to give everything.

This was a low point in Leeds United's history, but how many points did they get in the 2003/04 campaign?

“He had [an illness] and he’s been injured and injured again. You can’t be like that in the Premier League here. You’ve got to be fit because your teammates get bored of it very quickly ‘oh he’s injured again’.”

These comments were relayed by Leeds United Live on Facebook for fans to react to, and it generated some interesting responses:

It seems like the jury is still out on Firpo, but it’s still early in his Leeds career and there is plenty of time for him to convince those who aren’t big fans that there might be something to him.
