Lots of Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to react to Phil Hay’s recent article on Marcelo Bielsa’s current Leeds squad.

Bielsa’s men find themselves in a tricky position in the league following a stunning return to the top-flight last season which saw them finish in ninth place.

Hay’s article discussed how he feels Leeds captain Liam Cooper is an under-appreciated member of the squad by the fans despite remaining a frequent feature of Bielsa’s squad.

The 30-year-old centre-back has already played every minute of every single Premier League game this season and has recently been called up to Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad.

Leeds fans flocked to Hay’s tweet relaying his article as they shared their thoughts on the defender’s start to the 2021/22 campaign.

What did these Leeds fans have to say?

“Cooper’s been poor this season, the Wolves game aside and even then he could’ve done better for their goal. If we wanna progress we need better, an outstanding CB, been outshone by White and Llorente the last two years He’s a Ford Escort, will do alright but not always reliable”

“Cooper can be ok, but should only be considered as 4th choice CB. Too many times opposition goals have come directly from his mistakes. Him not being injury prone make him useful to have around though. Be interesting to see how much gametime he gets when (if) everyone’s fit.”
“I think he’s a bit marmite amongst fans”
“Great captain. But not a prem player I’m afraid”
“I’ll read it later on but you have to be kidding? He’s awful.”
“Great servant for Leeds and is Leeds through and through but cannot deny he is not a premiership player and should not be starting games”

Cooper has now been with the Yorkshire side for seven years having signed back in 2014 from Chesterfield for a fee believed to be in the region of £675k (via Transfermarkt).

Despite having been with the Whites through their struggles in the Championship, it seems these fans are unsure as to whether Cooper is up to the standard needed to push on in the Premier League.
