Many Leeds fans have taken to Twitter after journalist Rich Sharpe revealed that Ian Poveda, on loan at Blackburn Rovers from Leeds United, has suffered suspected ankle ligament damage.

Poveda, 21, was hauled off shortly before half-time of Blackburn Rovers’ 1-1 draw at Bristol City yesterday.

The loanee was making just his eighth Championship appearance of the season for Rovers after scoring his first goal for the club in his previous outing.  Poveda has endured a difficult past year-and-a-half following his Leeds United move,  managing just 14 league outings for Leeds last time round and has also endured a slow start to this season with Blackburn Rovers well.
But the Englishman looked to have turned a corner when he scored the first professional league goal of his career before the recent international break, netting the third goal in Blackburn’s 3-1 win over Sheffield United.

Do you think Ian Poveda has a future at Leeds?

However, after hearing about the suspected ankle ligament damage sustained, many Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to express their dismay at the 21-year-old star:
“All the best Poveda good luck with recovery”
“Big shame for Poveda who looked like he was coming into good form. Possible early return to Leeds”
“He has just started to play regularly and found his feet in Rovers. Stay strong, Ian.”
“Poor lad, he was awesome against Sheffield United & just getting going in a rovers shirt”
“This is terrible news. Hope it’s not as bad as it sounds”
“It looked horrific”
From a Leeds perspective, they’ll be gutted to see Poveda pick up an injury. He could’ve gained some quality experience with Blackburn this season but that all looks to be up in the air following this injury news – hopefully it won’t be too serious, and Marcelo Bielsa will be hoping  the youngster is able to make a safe recovery.
