The Athletic journalist Phil Hay has delivered the latest injury update ahead of Leeds United’s clash against Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday.

Leeds picked up an important point in their previous Premier League clash prior to the international break, drawing 1-1 against Leicester City as Brazilian sensation Raphinha’s superb free-kick was cancelled out by Harvey Barnes’ excellent strike for the Foxes at Elland Road on 7th November.

However, as The Athletic looked at how each Premier League side is faring in terms of injuries after the international break this morning, Hay has revealed that Luke Ayling is getting closer to returning to action for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Meanwhile, England striker Patrick Bamford will likely miss the clash against Spurs, before adding that a comeback date remains to be seen – with Bamford having missed the last two months of action due to an ankle injury.

The Athletic understands that he is unlikely to feature for Leeds against Tottenham on Sunday. Marcelo Bielsa is yet to give a comeback date for his first-choice centre-forward, but Bamford’s return looks set to wait beyond the weekend after two months out with an ankle injury,” Hay revealed.

Fans reacted to Hay’s update after he shared the latest on Leeds’ fitness issues on Twitter.

What did these Leeds fans make of Phil Hay’s injury update?

“Does anyone actually know the problem with Bamford? I’m sure he was initially ruled out for one game?”

@NiallBranton

“Phil is Bamford the new Forshaw or what? The lengthy absence with zero information just doesn’t make any sense”

@JayCartay

“Ridiculous now. Absolute nonsense the club don’t know when he’s going to be back. It’s 2021 not 1921. The club need to just declare how long he’s out for so we can all just draw a line under it & wait till then.”

@GJLindley

“We’ll have a HS2 train rolling into Leeds before we see Bamford again”

@connor_mjc

“Chris wood all over again with Bamford by looks of it”

@danieljamesros2

“Bamford the new Forshaw”

@mou19645

With Bamford missing against Spurs, Bielsa will count on the likes of Raphinha, Dan James and Tyler Roberts and Rodrigo as his primary attacking options against Conte’s side as they seek to claim an invaluable three points and extend their unbeaten run to four in the league.

This was a low point in Leeds United's history, but how many points did they get in the 2003/04 campaign?
