Former Leeds United player Carlton Palmer can understand why Rodrigo has been recalled to the Spain national team.

Rodrigo has featured 13 times for Leeds so far this season in all competitions and has scored two goals in the Premier League which came in games against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Norwich City.

During this campaign Rodrigo has played as both a centre-forward and an attacking midfielder for his club side and Palmer praised him following his recall to the Spain national team, with the 30-year-old recently featuring against Greece.

“I’ve seen Leeds play a couple of times and I think in the two games I’ve seen him play, he’s played well for them. So obviously, the Spanish national team will have been watching him and for him to be recalled now, he hadn’t played for the national team I think since October 2020, so I think they’ve got a few injuries.

“That’s the way it goes at times, you get a call up when you’re in form and a few injuries come up and you get a chance to get back into the national team, so well played for him,” Palmer told This is Futbol.

Rodrigo has won plenty of honours throughout his career for both club and country, as when with SL Benfica they were crowned Portuguese champions. He also won one Portuguese Cup and the Portuguese League Cup on two occasions. Alongside this, Rodrigo was part of the Valencia side that won the Spanish Cup in 2018/2019 and also won the European Under-21 Championships with Spain in 2013.

His current club side Leeds United had a tough start to the Premier League campaign this term but look to have turned a corner in recent weeks, as they are three matches undefeated and have only lost one match in their last five.
