Whilst featuring a number of times for Villa last term, Hatfield revealed that the centre-forward was very close to a loan move away from Villa Park during the summer.

“He came very close in the summer, before getting injured, to departing on loan and I think he does need a season where he’s kind of relied upon to be one of the main men at a club because unfortunately at Villa he’s not going to get that allowance in the Premier League,” Hatfield told This is Futbol.

The Athletic also confirmed that Davis missed out on a loan move away from Villa Park because of injury and also stated that a host of Championship clubs were interested, including Stoke City.

Davis did return to playing for Villa recently as he featured in Premier League 2 against Sunderland and also against MK Dons in the EFL Trophy, getting on the scoresheet in both fixtures and also providing an assist against MK Dons, before being named as a substitute for the first team against West Ham United.
