Footballer writer Charles Watts has claimed that Thomas Partey is ‘winning his fitness battle’ to be ready for Arsenal’s next game.

In the Gunners’ last league game, an injury kept Partey from featuring against Watford. Since then, there has been much speculation regarding his current fitness.

Due to his concerns, the Ghanaian was unable to play in either of his country’s games during the current international break. Although that would have been a personal shame, it may well benefit Arsenal.

Indeed, while discussing the matter on his YouTube channel, Watts explained how both player and club ‘are hopeful’ that Partey will be available to play against Liverpool this Saturday.

He said: “As far as I’m aware on Thomas Partey, all parties are hopeful that he could be involved on Saturday.

“Obviously, he wasn’t ready to go away with Ghana with that injury that had him ruled out against Watford. It would have been too much of a risk, he stayed, has been working on it during the international break with the medical department at Arsenal, been trying to make sure he’s okay to feature against Liverpool.

“And as it stands, fingers crossed, it’s looking like he’s winning his fitness battle to play at Anfield and that he could well be available, which would be a big, big boost for Arsenal.”

TIF Thoughts on Thomas Partey and Arsenal…

If Partey can return to the side it could well be a huge ‘boost’ for Mikel Arteta’s team, as Watts says. After all, Arsenal made a very slow start to the season, losing all of their first three Premier League games.

Incidentally, the Ghanaian was not fit to feature in any of those fixtures. What’s more, since he has returned to the team, the Gunners have not lost a game – with Partey playing in all but one league match.

With Liverpool only two points and a single place ahead of Arsenal, a win in this match could see Partey and co jump up into a Champions League place.

If the midfielder can be fit for the game, he could make a world of difference for his team.
