Football writer Charles Watts has claimed Arsenal will not stand in Eddie Nketiah’s way if the right bid comes in this January.

As we head towards the end 0f 2021, the young striker’s contract is set to enter its final six months. It doesn’t look as if any deal to extend his time with the Gunners will occur, so Nketiah can leave on a free next summer.

However, Watts has stated that ‘should the right offer arrive’, the 22-year-old will be shown the exit door. He also suggested that the forward is at the ‘very top’ of the club’s list of players to sell.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said: “I think, certainly, there are players who could be allowed to leave in January should the right offer arrive, and I think Nketiah is certainly right at the very top of that list.

“He’s not playing any Premier League football at the moment, hasn’t played a minute all season. So if a deal can be done for Eddie in January, then I don’t think they’re going to stand in his way.”

TIF Thoughts on Eddie Nketiah and Arsenal…

While this strategy might seem understandable, it could still be a bit of risk, as Arsenal will be without Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January due to the Africa Cup of Nations.

If anything should happen to Alexandre Lacazette in this period and Nketiah has already left, the Gunners would be in a spot of trouble, with Folarin Balogun the only other natural striker available.

It seems as if Arsenal have weighed up the pros and cons and came to the conclusion that the extra money they can get for the young English forward is worth the risk of not having him for the final half of the season.
