Goal.com Arsenal football correspondent Charles Watts has claimed that manager Mikel Arteta is playing mind games ahead of their clash against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday evening in the Premier League

Mikel Arteta’s side have changed their fortunes around this season and are currently on a 10-game unbeaten run which has lifted them up to 5th, while they could leapfrog The Reds with all three points when they take on Jurgen Klopp’s side at Anfield on Saturday evening.

Speaking on his Youtube channel, Watts said: “He’s certainly played a few mind games I think for me when it comes to injuries and team news. Hinting that (with) Aubameyang and Partey, that he’s not sure if they’re going to be fit or not. I’m not quite sure that’s the case.

“I think that might be a little bit of manager mind games going on there.”

Whether or not it is necessarily ‘mind games’, there may be substance to Watts claim that Mikel Arteta is implementing mind games ahead of the clash against Jurgen Klopp’s side this weekend.

This approach may have been adopted by the Spaniard in order to confuse and disorientate Klopp’s side, with key players such as Pierre-Emerick and Thomas Partey availability being a hot topic of question in the build up to the clash at Anfield.

Arsenal, who have not won at Anfield since the 2012-13 campaign, will be aiming to claim an invaluable three points at Anfield and send out a real message of intent to the rest of the Premier League as they fight to claim a Champions League position this season.
