Adrian Goldberg has been speaking on The Liquidator about how West Brom fans may become annoyed at Valerien Ismael very soon.

The Baggies fell to yet another defeat in the Championship when Huddersfield Town beat them 1-0 at the weekend, all while promotion rivals Fulham managed to hand out another emphatic defeat in the league, beating Barnsley 4-1.

Should West Brom sack Ismael?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

After just 18 games, West Brom are already eight points off the automatic promotion spots and appear to be in a very tricky situation, having won just twice in their last six league outings – and if results don’t pick up, fans may quickly turn on their manager, who was only appointed over the summer.

Goldberg has been speaking about how fans could quickly turn on Ismael.

“There’s nothing about the football that’s enticing, so all Ismael has to fall back on are results, and if results start turning against him – as indeed they have at the moment – then I don’t think it will be too long before fans were howling for his head pretty vocally.

“Now, whether that then reaches the boardroom and is listened to, I don’t know, but even the most tin-eared directors – even if they’re thousands of miles away – if the stadium is empty, if the atmosphere is hostile, then I think they have to pay attention to that.”

TIF Thoughts on Ismael…

It’s no secret that the style of football Ismael has implemented at The Hawthorns may not be pleasing on the eye, as it’s essentially a long-ball system, although the manager does label it ‘vertical football‘, and that has seen the Baggies become one of the most direct teams in the league – racking up 73 long passes in the Championship while also attempting the most crosses.

With West Brom wanting an immediate return to the Premier League, the type of football may not be too important if they can pick up positive results, however, that is not what’s happening, as the honeymoon period which saw the Baggies win four of their opening five matches is well and truly over.

Ismael may be forced into a change of tactics or style of play if this one is not yielding the required results, and it would also give respective oppositions something else to consider, as at the minute, Ismael’s unwillingness to switch tactics is making it easy for teams to prepare for and play against.
