Joseph Masi has been speaking on the Baggies Broadcast about how close Reyes Cleary is to featuring for West Brom.

Valerien Ismael managed to bring in six players on a series of loans and free-agent deals, but the attacking reinforcements have failed to deliver in the Championship on a consistent basis, which could be a big reason why West Brom have often been involved in low-scoring matches.

West Brom’s top scorer is Karlan Grant with eight goals, although the majority of these strikes came when he was in top form, netting six in six games before the turn of the month.

So with goals appearing to be an issue, some fans may want to see some youngsters handed a chance, such as the Bayern Munich-linked Reyes Cleary.

The striker is just 17 years old but his form for West Brom’s youth sides has seen him net 11 goals in 11 appearances this season and thus, teams from the Premier League and Bayern Munich have taken an interest in the striker, according to the Daily Mail.

Will West Brom earn promotion?

Masi has addressed the Cleary situation and what his chances of breaking into the first team are at the minute.

“So all we understand of Reyes Cleary is he is training. Like a whole lot of promising youngsters, Val has them in training with the first team for a bit and they go back to the 23s and then he has them back with the first team for a bit and then go back with the 23s. So Reyes Cleary is one of those players that does train with Albion’s first team.

“Look, he’s not been on the bench for a game. Everyone is getting very, very excited about some stories in the Daily Mail about some big clubs in Germany looking at Reyes Cleary. I mean, he’s not even on the bench, that’s all I can say – that’s how close he is.”

TIF Thoughts on Cleary getting near the first team…

At just 17 years old, it would be an almighty task to start Cleary and expect him to perform in the first team and in the Championship, especially at the minute when the Baggies are seriously struggling in front of goal.

Throwing a youngster into the first team who is not even training with them all the time would make very little sense and would put unnecessary amounts of pressure onto his shoulders.

To kick off this quiz on West Bromwich Albion's 2019/20 season, how many points did the Baggies end the 2019/20 Championship campaign with?

Instead of putting a lot of pressure on someone like Cleary, the Baggies should be looking to bring in an experienced and proven goalscorer to ensure they can keep pace with Fulham and Bournemouth in the second half of the campaign.
