A whole host of West Brom fans are furious on Twitter following Joseph Masi’s latest post after Valerien Ismael’s press conference.
The Baggies spent the summer wondering whether or not their number-one goalkeeper Sam Johnstone would be staying with just one year left on his contract or moving on, with interest from the Premier League apparent.
Should Johnstone leave West Brom?
Yes!
No!
The England international ended up staying, but that does not appear to have affected him or his England credentials, as he’s added to his caps he earned prior to Euro 2020 while in the Championship, and as the January transfer window approaches, Masi has revealed that Ismael and West Brom are set to ‘intensify’ talks with Johnstone over a new deal.
A lot of West Brom fans on Twitter are annoyed at this latest post by Masi.
What have these West Brom fans been saying?
“He could sign for a club abroad in January, why wait until then? Make an offer now and if he turns it down, well I think we’d better be open to offers in Jan…”
“He must be bonkers if he is even considering signing a new contract. I have a better chance being albion’s no 1 next season.”
“Why bother? This guy deserves a club that match his ambition & with the current shower running things behind the scenes, that ain’t Albion”
“Always put yourself in other peoples shoes. I no for a fact I would not sign a contract no way!”
“To late now,,,, should have been done a year or so ago”
“He will probably leave for a couple of million in Jan window anyway. He needs his head testing if he signs again for us.”
Speculation was so rife over Johnstone’s future that Ismael opted against starting him in the club’s opening match of the Championship against Bournemouth, but despite only months left to run on his deal, the 28-year old has been an ever-present in the league since that match for the Baggies.
Even since the summer transfer window slammed shut, there have been reports claiming that Premier League clubs are still interested in Johnstone, with Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton credited with an interest in him, but it remains to be seen whether or not the Baggies would want to sell him halfway through their promotion charge.
