Karlan Grant could not adjust to the Premier League but has been fantastic in the Championship this season, says former West Brom midfielder Carlton Palmer.

Grant was part of the West Brom side that were relegated from the top flight last term, struggling to make an impact following his move from Huddersfield Town.

In 21 appearances, the 24-year-old managed just the one goal, which came in a 1-1 draw against Brighton.

However, in the Championship this season, much like in the 2019/20 campaign, Grant has been in great form. Last month particularly, the English forward was on a hot streak, scoring in three consecutive games versus Birmingham City, Swansea City and Bristol City.

Ultimately, for Palmer, while Grant could not adjust to life in the Premier League, he has been fantastic this season in the second tier.

“There’s a gulf in class between the Championship and the Premier League,” the ex-West Brom player said to TIF. “I think he’s scored eight goals in his first 16 games, which is fantastic.

“But some players can make that adjustment up to the Premier League and some players can’t.”

Grant looks on course to match that impressive 2019/20 campaign, where he scored 19 goals for Huddersfield. Do that and you would expect West Brom to have a good chance of winning promotion back to the Premier League come May.
