Journalist Dean Jones has been speaking on the latest edition of Touchline Talk to discuss the search for a new manager at Norwich City.

The Canaries parted ways with Daniel Farke on Saturday after the club’s first Premier League win of the campaign against Brentford.

Would Lampard be a good appointment?

Some of the names to emerge as early candidates to replace the German manager include Frank Lampard, Ralph Hasenhuttl and Dean Smith – who was also relieved of his duties at the weekend.

It has also been reported that former Chelsea midfielder Lampard has entered talks with the club over the possibility of returning to management after being sacked by the Blues in January.

However, speaking about the vacancy at Carrow Road, Jones revealed his concerns about the possibility of Lampard taking on the role at the club rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.

“So if Frank Lampard’s had talks, then clearly he fits with the way that they’re heading. Maybe that’s to do with his connections as much as anything else. You know, Norwich have got big ambition, they’ve got some players in that squad that are of big value as well that they won’t want to lose.

“So keeping them with somebody like Lampard might help, but I think this would be a huge test for Frank Lampard and I’d be surprised if he kept them up, to be honest, if he got it.”

TIF Thoughts on Lampard to Norwich…

We have to agree with Jones on the potential appointment of Lampard at Carrow Road purely because of the desperate situation the club find themselves in at the bottom of the table.

Lampard does have experience in the Premier League with Chelsea, however, it did not end kindly for the 43-year-old after he was sacked with the Blues slumped in ninth spot.

Taking over at Norwich would be a huge difference to trying to lead Chelsea to a top-four finish, however, we think it is arguably even more challenging given they have already lost eight of their 11 games in the league.
