A lot of frustrated Tottenham Hotspur fans have been letting their anger known on Twitter at the performance of Steven Bergwijn in their Carabao Cup game on Wednesday night.

The Dutchman was included in Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting XI for the game at Turf Moor against Sean Dyche’s Burnley after a difficult start to the campaign for the winger.

Do you think Bergwijn needs to be sold?

Bergwijn featured in the opening three Premier League games of the season but an injury suffered on international duty saw the 24-year-old forced to sit out for a number of games (via Transfermarkt).

Despite having only returned to action last week in the Europa Conference League against Vitesse, Spurs fans flocked to Twitter to vent their frustrations with the winger’s display.

What did these fans have to say?

“And I’m not sure it’s close. Bergwijn is a Championship level player at best.”

“The fact this manager said Bergwijn is a big player for Spurs tells you everything. He’s dreadful”
“Struggling to think of a more pointless footballer than Steven Bergwijn”
“Looks like Bergwijn won a competition to play for us”
“Leave Bergwijn in Burnley and we’ll take Lennon home with us”
“Bergwijn is not good enough, that’s all”
“Bergwijn is an absolutely joke to this club”
“Also Bergwijn is absolutely horrific”

In truth, the Dutchman has had a turbulent time since signing for the Lilywhites back in the summer of 2019 with just one goal in the Premier League last season (via Transfermarkt).

Bergwijn’s night was brought to an end after 66 minutes and it seems these Spurs fans were left far from impressed with the display shown by the winger.

  • Tony Borg says:

Bergwijn is hopeless, Moura although scoring gives the ball away too much, Gil did absolutely nothing again when on. Kane was more or less missing in action again. We got the result, that’s the only good thing that came out of the match. Not impressed at all. Levy and Lewis OUT !!
