Football insider Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on the latest episode of his Here We Go podcast to discuss Newcastle United’s search for a new permanent manager.

Just over one week after seeing Mike Ashley’s tenure of the club come to an end, the Toon also said goodbye to their manager Steve Bruce as the pair parted company last week.

Would you like to see Fonseca hired?

Yes

No

Bruce’s assistant manager, Graeme Jones, has taken over the Tyneside club on an interim basis and has been informed he will be in charge for at least their draw against Crystal Palace and their clash at St. James’ Park on the weekend.

One of the names to be linked with the vacant permanent role is the Portuguese manager Paulo Fonseca who is currently without a club after leaving Roma at the end of last season.

Discussing the latest in the Tyneside club’s search for a new manager, Romano had the following to say on their talks with Fonseca.

(9:50) “[For] One week they’re talking with Fonseca and they have a contract proposal for Fonseca. But it’s not Fonseca [that’s] the problem because Fonseca would love to go to Newcastle.

“The problem is that at the moment there is still nothing decided by [the] Newcastle owners and Newcastle board. They are still talking with other managers like Lucien Favre.

“And not only him, so it’s still an open race. I’m told that they’re trying something big but it’s really complicated in this moment because of course, Newcastle have a lot of potential but the real situation now is complicated and this is why maybe top managers are not going now. They’re waiting a bit before saying yes.”

TIF Thoughts on NUFC’s manager search…

It has now been over one week since Steve Bruce faced the sack from the Magpies and the Toon have not brought in a replacement as of yet [Wednesday].

However, we think this is not something the Newcastle fans should concern themselves over.

Jones has the respect of the fans and we think he will be able to do an adequate job until the Newcastle owners are able to whittle down their ideal candidate.

Although some fans would have liked to see an immediate replacement appointed, having some patience in trying to find the best man for the job should only benefit the Toon as they look to pull themselves out of the relegation scrap.
