Former Sheffield Wednesday player Carlton Palmer believes that when Massimo Luongo and Josh Windass return it will be a huge boost for the football club.

This was echoed by Owls boss Darren Moore who told the Examiner Live during his press conference prior to playing Bolton Wanderers: “Yes, because they are good players. We have missed them. To have two players of that ilk involved again would be like two new signings.”

Whilst there isn’t a set date for their returns as confirmed by Moore to the Examiner Live, both Luongo and Windass have played a major part for Sheffield Wednesday in previous seasons, with Luongo featuring on 45 occasions and Windass 53 times for the Owls.

Will having Windass and Luongo back be a big boost for Sheffield Wednesday?

Palmer believes that it will be a huge boost for the club when they return, telling This is Futbol: “At the end of the day, both of them are players who could be playing higher, certainly in the Championship, both of them possibly.

“Certainly, for Josh, I don’t think he would have been at the football club had he been fit. It’s worked for Sheffield Wednesday that he was injured at the time. He signed a two-year deal and I think they’ve had a gentleman’s agreement that if Sheffield Wednesday are in the shake up, he’ll stay because they’ll be back in the Championship next season.

“So yeah, obviously to get both of those players back, both of those players fully fit, can only be of benefit to Sheffield Wednesday and they’ll come at the right time. When you want to start being in and amongst the shake up is Christmas and so both of those should be back before Christmas and that’s a huge boost for the club.”

Windass certainly knows where the back of the net is, as throughout his career he has scored 64 goals and also assisted a further 36, with Luongo also getting 28 goals and providing 32 assists, showing both are effective players in the final third.

After eleven games of the League One campaign, Sheffield Wednesday sit in ninth place in the table on 18 points, which is just one point outside the play-offs and only five points off table toppers Plymouth Argyle.
