Former Sheffield Wednesday man Carlton Palmer insists that Saido Berahino is “super excited” to be playing for the club and has backed him to be prolific in League One.

The 28-year-old has endured a nomadic career in recent seasons and has played for a variety of clubs.

Berahino spent seven years with West Bromwich Albion and joined Stoke City in 2017 before moving to Zulte Waregem in Belgium. They loaned him to fellow Belgian club Charleroi and he is now back in England with Wednesday.

Do you think that Saido Berahino could still compete at Premier League level?

He has already made three appearances for the club and scored in the 1-1 draw with Shrewsbury Town.

Palmer believes that he has the ability to score a huge amount of goals in League One, and has confirmed that he has already spoken with the forward over the move.

He said: “I spoke to Saido when he first came over. He was super excited. He’s got to get up to speed because although he’s done a pre-season, he’s not been playing games. I think he’s scored one goal already, he should score a hatful of goals in this league.”

During his time with West Brom, Berahino made 121 appearances and scored 36 goals, while also registering eight assists.
