A wave of Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to react to a penalty miss from new Bhoy Giorgos Giakoumakis.

The Greece international joined the Hoops late in the transfer window but is only just integrating himself into the team, having suffered from minor injury and subsequent fitness issues.

However, responsibility for penalty duties was given to him by Ange Postecoglou in Celtic’s 0-0 stalemate with Livingston at the weekend – with Giakoumakis failing to deliver Celtic into the arms of victory from the spot.

With usual taker Josip Juranovic – who has scored both of his two penalties for the club – taken off spot-kick duties in favour of Giakoumakis by Ange, the penalty miss may leave many scratching their heads at Celtic over the decision.

The miss prompted a reflective reaction from plenty of Celtic fans who took to social media to discuss the flashpoint.

What have some Celtic fans been saying in response?

“I cannot get my head around why Juranovi? hasn’t hit that penalty. Taken two, scored two.”

@aboutceltic

”Ange needs to sit Giakoumakis for the rest of the year. He bottled the victory twice.”

@je_melendez96

“Even Ajeti would have scored that”

@luiseduardo0728

“Ridiculous decision imo”

@news_donegal

“Giakoumakis is penalty taker, but has not been on park for last couple. Hopefully he’s demoted now, that was an awful effort, keeper could have stopped with his foot…”

@KevMurrayOff

“It’s little things like that that win or lose you a league title.”

@JayHou

“Just watched Sportscene, Giorgos Giakoumakis is a disgrace. That penalty to win and put Celtic top of the league was disgraceful. You could see it in his face he wasn’t confident. I hope he’s not a flop like many other strikers we’ve had. One thing is certain he needs to buck up!”

@7govscott

“Ange got it badly wrong yesterday. Play Kyogo from the off, get the game won, which was possible considering how we played against a far better than Livingston side in Hibs, then take him off, I’d genuinely rather start Ajeti than Giakoumakis. Lump of drift wood”

@Leftwinger_11

The moment evidently remains raw for many Celtic fans, and it is reasonable to suggest that Giakoumakis could see his penalty duties usurped by Juranovic going forward.
