Celtic fans have been reacting to comments that have emerged about James McCarthy from Frank McAvennie.
McCarthy, who only signed for the club this summer, is someone who has struggled with injuries for large parts of his career, and they appear to be affecting him now, as he hasn’t been able to put together a run of games at Celtic.
Bhoys boss Ange Postecoglou confirmed in his press conference that he was going to be available for this weekend’s game against St. Johnstone, where he might be able to get some minutes under his belt.
Speaking in an interview with Football Insider, McAvennie claimed that the 30-year-old is someone that could play a big part for Celtic going forward, but that his inconsistent run in the team isn’t helping him or the team:
“He is the one Celtic wanted to come in and sit in the middle. That’s an important part of that side. It’s not happening because he’s not fit enough. He’s getting more injuries because he’s not fit enough when he does play.
“So we need someone to sit in the midfield and win tackles. That’s what he’s for and he is a good player. I don’t think there is anyone else at Celtic who can do that, so we need to be careful with him.”
These comments were relayed to fans by the Celtic Insider Facebook page for them to react to, where there were some who appear to have washed their hands of him already:
Where do you think Celtic will finish in the Scottish Premiership this season?
Hopefully he’ll be able to get over these problems soon, because it would be a shame if he is given a bad rap by the fans before he’s even had a real chance to prove himself.
