A wave of Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to react to a claim made by fan journalist Kevin McKenna about Neil Lennon.
Writing for fan blog The Celtic Way, the writer defended the legacy of Lennon despite ultimately falling short in the Bhoys’ quest to win ten league titles in a row.
Comparing him to legendary ex-Bhoys boss Jock Stein, the writer defended some of Lennon’s behaviour to the press in recent months:
“Lennon has been rebuked for daring to defend his reputation. What was he expected to do? He delivered two trebles in a managerial record that’s arguably second only to Jock Stein.”
That prompted a reflective reaction from plenty of Celtic fans who took to social media to discuss the claim.

“Pretty one sided but raises some really good positives under Lennon. I agree it’s time to move on and stop trashing his legacy.”
”He trashed his own legacy. Continues to do so as well.”

“In my lifetime, I’d put Jansen, O’Neil, Strachan and Rodgers above him as managers. For their ability as coaches and for what they achieved. Lennon inherited a great team. And hopefully Ange joins that list.”
“Never mention Lennon and Stein in the same sentence again.”
“Still too raw. He failed Celtic and the support. If he had resigned even just after the ten was gone I’d have accepted it just didn’t work out but he dragged Celtic down with him. Find that hard to forgive at this moment in time.”
The piece has certainly courted controversy as Lennon’s legacy remains a contentious issue. Almost a full season following his dismissal, the end to his reign evidently remains a raw and contentious subject hot in the minds of many fans.
